School Location and Curriculum
The Language Centre is located in Vigo, which is the biggest city in Galicia. It is on the Atlantic coast, between Santiago de Compostela and Portugal and is surrounded by one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Iberian Peninsula a rests on a beautiful bay of the same name. Vigo has a mild climate and wonderful beaches, which make it one of the major tourist destinations in the region. It is a young city, characterized by its university atmosphere, intense cultural and artistic activity
and vibrant night life.
The curriculum for Spanish as a foreign language at the Language Centre follows the European guidelines for languages detailed in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
These include guidelines for learning, teaching and evaluation developed for Spanish by the Instituto Cervantes in its Curricular Plan (2006).
The Language Centre offers courses at all six levels from Beginner (A1) to Proficiency (C2) — and the courses are recognized by the University of Vigo through ECTS and similar credit-transfer systems.
In addition to this, optional activities such as guided tours, fun activities, workshops,
and day trips are offered during the afternoons, allowing students to take full advantage of their free time during their stay in Vigo.

Timetable
Class sessions take place in the morning, with three hours of Spanish language and one specialised workshop hour. Students attend a total of 20 hours of morning language classes and workshops per week (40 hours per two-week period) and each two-week period includes a guided educational visit to Vigo on the first day of class as well as two additional visits to places of interest in the city, including pre-historic Galician villages or “castros”, Roman ruins, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Sea Museum.
In addition to these courses and tours, students also have the option of participating in educational workshops related to Spanish culture in general and Galician culture in particular.
On the first Saturday of every two-week period there is a guided sightseeing tour of one of Galicia’s emblematic places of interest.

Fees
There is an application fee of €60, which includes a place in the course and study materials.

Accommodation
While studying at the Language Centre students have the option of living with a Spanish host family or staying at one of our on-campus residences. There is one off placement fee of €35.
